Land & Sea

LAND AND SEA is a large-scale public artwork exploring the relationship between people, nature and the environments we share. Through a series of simple symbolic forms, including birds, fish, trees, penguins and human figures, the mural reflects the interconnectedness between community, land and ocean.

Using warm earth tones and layered compositions, the work creates a calm and welcoming presence within the public space, inviting moments of reflection and encouraging a deeper awareness of our relationship with the natural world.

The mural was created by South African artist Keya Tama, who is currently based in New York. His practice explores the intersection between ancient iconography and contemporary folklore, often using recurring motifs drawn from people, animals and nature to tell stories that feel both timeless and future-facing.

Produced by SJ Artists, the project forms part of an ongoing commitment to creating thoughtful public art that contributes positively to shared urban environments and Cape Town’s evolving cultural landscape.

These murals were made possible through generous contributions of both time and funding. Special thanks to the private donor whose support helped bring this artwork to life.
